Saroo Brierley, born Saroo Munshi Khan, is an Indian-born Australian businessman and author who gained international fame for his remarkable journey of being lost as a child, then finding his way back home through the help of Google Earth.
Born on May 22, 1981, in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, India, Saroo had a difficult childhood. At the age of five, he was separated from his family when he accidentally boarded a train that took him thousands of miles away from his home. After a harrowing journey, he ended up in Kolkata, where he lived on the streets and in orphanages before being adopted by an Australian couple, Sue and John Brierley.
It wasn't until 25 years later, in 2011, that Saroo decided to use Google Earth to try and locate his hometown in India. With only fragmented memories and the help of technology, he was able to trace his way back to his birth mother in 2012.
Saroo's incredible story was documented in his autobiography "A Long Way Home," which was later adapted into the critically acclaimed film "Lion" in 2016. The movie starred Dev Patel as Saroo and Nicole Kidman as his adoptive mother, Sue Brierley.
Since the release of the film, Saroo has become an advocate for children's welfare and has used his platform to raise awareness about the plight of lost and orphaned children around the world. He has also founded the Saroo Brierley Foundation to support causes related to adoption, child welfare, and mental health.
Despite his challenging past, Saroo has managed to overcome adversity and turn his experience into a source of inspiration for others. His resilience and determination serve as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a brighter future.
As Saroo Brierley continues to share his story with the world, he remains a symbol of courage, strength, and the power of never giving up on one's dreams.
